For about 2.5 months i have been dealing with more or less constant (non-vertigo) dizziness. My dizziness is more of a feeling of "visual off-ness"; each individual object i can see well clearly but as a scene its noisy/busy, which makes me nauseous if I do things (walk around, computer, etc). Something just is off. Nausea accompanies it, and it is most severe when on the computer (that is where i first noticed it originally) and in busy environments and well lit places (grocery, restaurants). But its there constantly; ie when i wake up and walk around. I can spend no more than a few minutes on computer w/o getting quite nauseous, and have had to lay down after. But beyond these specific triggers that make it worse, there is a general "off" feeling (surreal, noisy depth perception, busy) constantly, even when just walking around outside. Its best when in poorly lighted rooms when i'm just sitting.
This dizziness has almost gone away twice. The first "bout" lasted approximately 5 weeks, and i felt a bit better for about a week. I wasn't 100% but could do most normal things, with just a slight residual dizziness. I went back to work but couldn't last on computer or in meetings, and over a few days I was back to constant dizziness upon waking in the morning. It lasted two weeks again, went almost away (could do most things very normally) for a few days, and now has been back for three weeks.
Other associated symptoms are tightness in jaw muscles (this is more recently not initially, and noticeable when on computer or in car), fullness/pressure in ears (most noticable after getting nauseous/dizzy), photophobia often (floaters when outside and need sunglasses), and the occasional headache and pain behind eyes. when i really push it and try to do stuff, it becomes unbearable (almost like my brain is short circuiting a bit; i get nauseous and need to lay down. also, Lately my sinus area has had a little tingly pain when i breathe through my nose for a while. can't think of any other noticeable symptoms. I haven't worked essentially for 3 months.
My balance is good. My basic eye test, hearing tests and MRI (w/ contrast) were normal, as was blood work. my balance test is in two weeks (although as i said my balance is fine). Also, i had one similar episode 4 years ago. not sure if same thing but got dizzy on computer and walking outside -- it lasted 3/4 weeks. had mri that was normal, the doc thought it was probably inner ear then - it didn't come back.
anyway, My neurologist thinks it is anxiety and has prescribed medication (and biofeedback), which has yet to work. My ENT thought it was vestibular neuritis but it came back quickly which wouldn't make sense; she also mentioned vestibular migraine. I need to get back to work, but that requires computer use which i have little tolerance for. Beyond that, i'd like to go out and do normal stuff.
any help/thoughts would be great! Thanks! what could possibly cause this?
