TIA?

Postby lovedisappears on Fri Jun 13, 2008 11:45 pm

Ok, here goes..
My husband has been having these 'episodes'. He's had them for years now, and in the year and a half we've been together i've seen them at least a handful of times. Now a few years ago when his mom worked for a neurologist I guess he had an exam and they told him it was just migraines. I didn't know about this until he actually had an episode so when this happened I immediately went online and started searching and came across TIA, pretty much every symptom for TIA, he has. Since the 'exam' he hasn't been checked despite me telling him he needed to. Well tonight I get a call from him telling me he had another episode and is actually going to the emergency room. Long story short, they took his blood pressure and it was normal so they ruled TIA out. Did a head scan and blood work and everything was fine and they sent him home with no explanation. I'm so shocked and baffled! How can they be like ok everything checks out and you're find when obviously symptoms like those are NOT normal! I would like him to see a neuro specialist but he's in the military and unfortunately and as outraged as i am also about this, they don't cover outside Dr's & things like this.. go figure!
Anyways I was wondering if anyone had any advice or thoughts on what this could possible be.. I've looked up alike symptoms to TIA saying; brain cancer, migraines, glucose or hypoglycemic attacks or w/e or .. could it be JUST a migraine? and if so, are all those symptoms that goes with OK? Can they do harm? Cause to see my husband when he has these attacks scare the bejeezus out of me!!
Thanks for any input anyone has!

Worried Wife,
Nina

A normal blood pressure does not exclude a TIA!!

Please describe in detail what happens during one of your husband's "episodes".

How long between the other symptoms (vision etc) and the headache?
Do all the other symtoms disappear after the headache starts?
What side are the symptoms on?

You should look at the page about migraines and migraine auras.

The symptoms seem to fit in very well with migraine with aura...does he have a family history?

That being said if the stroy is in any way not typical of migraine with aura or abnormal findings are found on examination then further investigation may be warranted.

There are many drugs that can prevent this sort of attack if it is migraine.

Looking forward to hearing back
