Intracerebral Hemorrhage (spontaneous)

New postby ilovemymum on Sun Aug 02, 2009 6:54 pm

Hi

i was searching the web for info and came across your forums

My mum died 2wks ago from a Intracerebral Hemorrhage (spontaneous), she was just 57yrs old

she was fit and healthy, she only suffered from arthitus, nothing else, she had her blood pressure checked last a few mnths ago and it was normal. she had not had any head trauma's

she did smoke all her life, but i have read online that smoking has not been linked to ICH?

im just very frustrated in not knowing what may have caused this to happen to her, she was out with my girlfriend at a childrens hospital on the night it happened for about 4-5 hours, and when she had the severe head pain and stiffness of the neck and blurred vision they came straight home, (she did not want tto go the hospital straight away cause the pain eased off) then about 1hr after she got home she had the 2nd bout which she later passed away from

can anyone help me understand this ?

thanks

To answer your question, it would be helpful to have some more details regarding the exact location of the bleeding within the brain.
Could you please send the exact wording of the CT scan / MRI scan that was performed.
What medications was she on?

Looking forward to hearing back

all the best

thx for reply,

the doctors said it was a massive bleed in the middle of the brain, a CT scan was done but i dont have access to it

she was on "mobiflex"for the arthitus, but she did also have trouble with her sinus's, she took Flixonaise spray almost daily for this. and often used to say she had headaches and sometimes when her sinus's were bad she would get like a "pulse" in her head.

Are you sure that it was an intracerebral hemorrhage and not a sub-arachnoid hemorrhage?
It is important to know as the causes are quite different.

thanks

Well there are many causes of ICH. Most commonly it is associated with high blood pressure but you say your mother did not have this.
It is possible that the bleed happened within a brain tumor that had not yet caused symptoms.
Other possible causes are abnormalities in the blood vessels that can develop over years and can cause no symptoms until one of the vessels bursts (a bit like a time-bomb).
Sometimes problems with the blood clotting system are to blame although this is normally due to medications such as warfarin.

Hope that helps,

all the best
