Hi,
I had a small (2.5cms) right octipital lobe brain hemorrhage 6 days after the birth of my baby daughter. I was only in hospital for 3 weeks, and made a good recovery - the only lasting effects have been slight visual problems and occasional memory lapse. I was rescanned in January and told that the bleed had made 'moderate regression' though from what I've read it can take approximately 6 months to reabsorb entirely.
I'm keen to find out more about why this has happened to me.
I had an epidural during labour however it went wrong and the anaestatist punctured my dura. A few days later I ended up being readmitted with severe headaches and nausea and consequently had a blood patch. 2 days later I collapsed and fitted. This was when I was scanned and they diagnosed the bleed.
I'm being told that there is no link between the above happening and my hemorrhage, as apparently my type of hemorrhage isn't consistent with dural punctures. I really want to gain understanding of why it is impossible for my type of hemorrhage to be linked to the dural puncture/blood patch.
The cause they appear to be focusing on is me having fallen down the stairs and banged my head at 29 weeks pregnant. They think that I may have loosened a blood vessel and the pushing during labour caused it to burst. Again though, I would like to get an understanding of why it would suddenly burst 6 days post-natally and not actually during the pushing. Also given that although I did hit my head I wouldn't have even gone to hospital for the fall if it wasn't for me being pregnant, as I was obviously more concerned as to whether the baby was ok and this fall was nearly 3 months before the hemorrhage occurred - and I also didn't suffer any effects after the fall, no headaches or anything.
Any information you could provide me with would be greatfully received.
I look forward to hearing from you.
