I've done more than my fair share of drinking since college. Would say that I at least had a drink or two 2-3 days a week, and became what I would call "drunk" about once every one to two weeks since I was 18. I am currently 28, and recently made my new years resolution to cut back on my drinking, since I have noticed it's negative effects more than I used to when I was younger. I'll get to exactly what those problems are shortly.
I am aware that alcohol can cause nerological damage, as well as many other types of damage to my body, as well as be harmful to my emotional/psychological health. Recently, I have joined a men's support group of sorts through my church for those with drinking problems, and it has been helpful to distance myself from a habit that I've had for more than a decade now. It's been great.
I also eat right, make sure to eat plenty of fruits and grains, and take it easy on meats, especially red ones, and excercise regularly at my church's gym.
I've recently been noticing that, even after periods where I haven't drank in a week or so, my hands have a tendency to tremor ever so slightly. The problem was much more noticeable if I was wasted the night before, but now, even after nearly three weeks of abstaining, the problem persists. It tends to be concentrated mainly in my thumbs, but also effects my fingers and my entire hand from the wrist up. It occurs whether or not I am using my hands at the moment. Caffeine seems to make the problem more noticeable.
Is this a result of my habitual drinking? I'd venture to guess that it has, but would appreciate the input of someone more qualified. What can I do to repair this damage, if this is a result of my drinking? Is this damage permanent? Any suggestions for supplements, or nutrients I should focus on?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
