Toe problem

Weird symptoms such as disorientation, tingling, surges of heat that my doctors do not seem to understand

Toe problem

New postby jasdig21 on Thu Jun 05, 2008 6:03 pm

I had an ingrown toenail for over a year that was causing me a lot of pain so I decided to go to a podiatrist to have it fixed. He removed part of my toenail on the side and I'm no longer having pain the puffiness went down and so on. However, my toe feels weird. It doesn't feel normal and feels numblike and I don't know if it's from the toenail on that side being removed or if I have nerve damage. Last year, I worked at a grocery store and was turning a pallet of frozen food around in a freezer with a manual pallet jack. I wasn't turning it very fast but the wheel on it bumped into my big toe. I didn't think anything of it because it didn't break my toe I could still walk and it didn't bruise or anything but it did hurt. I'm wondering because the pallet weighed between 1000-2000 lbs I'm sure, if there is damage of some sort. The podiatrist said I most likely have nerve damage and need to see a neurologist but they probably can't do anything, there are no tests to perform he said to figure out why my toe feels 'weird'. But he said I could take vitamin b6 and if that doesn't help, it will be permanent. I'm really scared and I don't know if I should get a second opinion. My toe looks fine, it just feels numblike and weird all the time. Would a neurologist be able to help me or what should I do. Thank you for your time.

i can still walk fine and it bends and moves fine i am wondering if the feeling i'm having is the sensation of part of my toenail being removed my ingrown toenail was just removed a few weeks ago. but sometimes it feels cold and tingly and it just feels weird i don't know how to explain it there isnt any pain really i really hope its just the toenail when the pallet jack bumped into my toe it was at a slow rate of speed but i am worried because of the weight of the pallet being heavy the podiatrist i saw said the bone is fine i still have good movement but im wondering if the tissue is damaged he said no the nerves could possibly be damaged. i still have 'feeling' i can still touch it and feel it and feel hot/cold water and so on but it just feels odd so i don't know what to think

Well a neurolologist would examine you to make sure the diagnosis is correct (nerve damage as you mentioned) and then could suggest some medications for neuropathic pain...there are quite a few out there now such as lyrica (pregabalin) cymbalta (duloxetine) and neurontin (gabapentin).

Hope that helps
