Tingling in arms and legs

Weird symptoms such as disorientation, tingling, surges of heat that my doctors do not seem to understand

Tingling in arms and legs

New postby shuston on Fri May 27, 2011 9:18 am

About 6 months ago (December 8) I spontaneously experienced vertigo while in my car at a stop light. I then believe that suffered a panic attack. I went to see my doctor about the vertigo and numbness that I had experienced. She then decided to refer me to a neurologist. I went home and waited. All the while my vertigo did not disappear but the numbness seemed to pass. I went back to my doctor a month later with an ear infection and she decided that maybe I should see an ENT about my vertigo, so she referred me to one. I waited and waited to hear from the neurologist and ENT.

In January I went to see a naturopath who said my problems were related to poor circulation, my BP is around 96/67. She did some acupuncture and gave some homeopathic meds to take. I didn't feel any different after seeing her. In February, I then tried to see a chiropractor who said that she could fix my vertigo. She did a few "adjustments" with an activator and my vertigo hadn't improved by March. Two nights after the first adjustment I woke up in the middle of the night with my entire body (with the exception of my head) completely frozen. I felt a very strong pulsing, numbness/ tingling. I laid there until it passed, it lasted about a minute or two. The next day and beyond I have had tingling in my hands/ arms, feet/ legs and occasionally feel tingling sensations in my lips and tip of my nose.

I ended up seeing the ENT March 8 and he diagnosed me with BPPV but couldn't trigger a nygstamus. They sent me on my way with my vertigo and told me to call them when it gets really bad again.

I finally saw my neurologist May 4 and he ordered an MRI which we are still waiting on results for but he assured me that I don't have MS. He said that he believed that I am experiencing migraine without pain. I have been taking elavil 20mg daily for 2 weeks and my numbness is not improving, my vertigo is present and he won't see me again until I have done several more weeks of Elavil. It doesn't seem plausible to me that a migraine without pain could actually be this constant (mid February to end of May and still going) numbness/ tingling.

I have a history of migraines and have seen this neurologist in the past and had a clear MRI (2.5 years ago).

Hey shuston,

Just wondering how you have been going with your symptoms and how your mri went? I suffered migranes from age 8 or so I thought, "they" turned out to be epilepsy, but a form of epilespy that wasn't recognised or even known about in the 60's. I had this undiagnosed until my 40s when the seizures got really bad again for some reason.

There are now over 40 different types of recognised epilespy, so if you want to research your symptoms if you haven't got an answer, it may be helpful and may give you something to take to your Neuro? We often miss our symptoms because they have been there for so long and we think they are just part of our make up.

What ever the issue and outcome is I really hope that it is simple and easy to treat.

Cheers,
Rhian
