Strange dull ache.

Weird symptoms such as disorientation, tingling, surges of heat that my doctors do not seem to understand

Strange dull ache.

New postby SpencerK on Fri Feb 11, 2011 7:47 am

Hello there.

I honestly do not know what my issue is, neither does my doctor, nor the Neuro I have been to see.

Basically, I have a constant dull ach on the top right side of my head. It kinda like feels like a spot would, but on the side of my head. Now, I had an MRI done about a year ago, that was clear.

The dull ache is constant, and I can feel it all the time. Its throbs when I stand up, bend down - pulses, if you will. Now, this same area does (only happened about 4 times) sometimes give me incredible pain, terrible pain - which I have had diagnosed as Ice Pick headaches. Now, these do not come often. When they do, its horrible, very very painful. So, I am calm about this. But what is worrying me is this constant dull ache, I wake up - its there, everything I do - its there.. Even typing now, it feels likes its throbbing. So very uncomfortable.

Addtionally, my memory loss is bad, my confusion is bad. I can learn something (currently studying) and totally forget it a day later. Sometimes I cannot remember how to spell the simplest of words - and just recently even when people speak I do not understand them, I have to ask them to repeat themselves.

I have had my hearing, eyesight checked out - nothing wrong there. I do not drink, smoke, I weight train 4 times a week; I run.

Now, I would obviously be concerned if I had not had an MRI a year ago. And if it was a brain tumor, or something - then surely now (after having this for about 2.5 years) I would have more intense symptoms.

But still, what is this dull-ache, why is it there on that specific side of my head. I have a vein on my right temple, when I push that it seems to activate the dull ache. Could it be a blood vessels ? Could it be some vein?

I just cannot carry on with this, its uncomfortable and every time I feel it I get a sense of dread.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much.

Hi Spencer,

How awful for you, I've noticed that men more than women get that particular issue. Is it possible that you are constantly tense? Especially if you have a vein in your temple. I wonder too at the weight training, whether it has caused a blood vessel to enlarge in your temple, and then where the blood goes into the brain, there vessel/vein returns to the normal size so it causes a pressure to build up?

Did your Neuro do an eeg? that would pick up any abnormality in the brain function. I really hope you found some relief from it; one way is to place warm wet cloths on your forehead and around to the side where the pain is, I know that helps the veins and vessels to relax and return a normal blood flow. I say warm because if you have a narrowed vein or vessel, it will help it to let blood through, whereas a cold cloth will narrow it causing it to close causing more throbbing.

Would like to know how you are feeling now and how you are doing,

Rhian
