28 years old, new problems with speech

New postby wondering on Sun Jul 06, 2008 6:57 pm

I am 28 years old, and never had any problems with my speech. For the past few months I've noticed subtle changes in my speech. Sometimes it is like I have a slight problem saying certain words that I've never had problems with before. Like my tongue gets lazy for certain words like "decisions". Besides the words, I've also noticed that I can put them in the wrong order at times when making sentences. Just did it yesterday when I said "he should out be" instead of "be out". I only make these mistakes on occasion, and can notice and correct myself immediately. So far no one else has commented on these issues.

I have no hx of head trauma, am professionally employed, and finished university.

My assumption is that these changes are stressed induced, but it freaks me out a bit sometimes. I'd like some reassurance that it's a good chance it's from stress. I have not yet approached my dr. as it seems rather embarrasing and I don't want to seem like a hypochondriac.

Thanks for your question:-

Whilst it may be possible ,or even likely that there is no physical problem and that your symptoms may be stress related this does not mean you should not go to the doctor to get checked (double negative = positive i.e. you shoud go!)

Getting a full neurological exam does not hurt, has no side effects and is the only way to really get the reassurance you seek that everything is OK :D

Please get checked and then let us know how it goes.

...real hypochondriacs do not feel this way so don't worry about going to the doctor and being told you are fine!...that's what we're here for

look forward to hearing from you
