White matter lesions

New postby matherton on Mon Jan 11, 2010 5:06 pm

Hello!

I have a question in regards to white matter lesions.

I have had the diagnosis of "potential MS" since 2005 when an MRI of my brain showed 4 lesions that did not yet fit the criteria for MS. In 2006 a repeat MRI showed 7 lesions, still not fitting the criteria. Now finally in 2009 my latest MRI showed 10 lesions, that do not fit the criteria for MS yet, but the differential diagnosis in the report are demyelination, central nervous system vasculitis, or lupus with vasculitis.

I told my GP about this and she said there have been no changes in my MRI's, which shocked me as i have the reports in front of me and see an increase in lesions.

Over the past few years i have gone through periods of sickness with symptoms of fatigue, pain, tremors, vision loss and blurring, severe headaches, and weakness in my legs and arms, and bad habit of dropping things! (i was treated for TB in 2005 as they found TB in my skin)
just this last week when i began a new "attack" of similar symptoms starting with my vision in my left eye going almost completley for about a day and a half, extreme fatigue, confusion and nausea and weakness in my left leg, and pain in my lower back especially when lying down.

I'm just wondering if this increase in lesions should be investigated ? After my first MRI the neurologist said that some people just have some lesions in the white matter and thats just how they are. But i'm wondering if there are more and more lesions is that a problem? or should i just wait and see what happens.

If anyone has any input i would appreciate it!

thanks

I forgot to add that i'm 27 years old and the MRI noted that there were too many lesions for a patient of my age.
