vertebral artery spasm

New postby cecy.cp on Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:41 pm

6 months ago, while I was washing my face, I felt dizzy and nauseus and a burning sensation that went through my jaw. When I did throw up, I lost sudden control of my left side. I could not stand( could move my leg but was useless) I couldn't move my arm, had vertigo and could not swallow, plus I was talking like I had just walked out of the denist. I was rushed to the hospital and had a MRI done, thank God no stroke., but the MRA showed an occlusion of the left vertebral artery. Since the radiologist did not do the reading, the neurologist thought it was a vertebral artery dissection ( no clots or aneurysms were found) I was on coumadin, and 3 months post vad I had a new MRA. To my surprise they couldn't find a vad scar,so the doctor concluded it had actually been an artery spasm I continued with coumadin for 3 more months and I'm now taking plavix. The hematologist did al sort of test to see if I had a clotting dissorder but thank God everything was fine. The dr said it probably happened because I had a stiff neck for 3 weeks prior to the incident, and that a muscle could have cause the artery to contract. I would like to know more information about artery spasm. Will it happen again? what can I do to avoid it? can I take a cat or mri or something on my shoulders to se if the musle is compromising the artery? I sometimes have neck pain or shoulder pain., and when this happens, I go crazy thinking tha it can happen again. PLEASE HELP!
Thanks,
Cecy
