My son Kaden had a MRI because he was behind in his milestones and has hypotonia(He was 15 months at the time) His pediatrician has now referred us to a neurologist but It might be awhile before we get in.Can someone help me understand what it means and maybe what the diagnosis might be?
Findings: The ventricles are normal in size and configuration. There is a high signal on the T2 and FLAIR in the hyperventrical deep white matter adjacent to the atria of the lateral ventricals. There is no cyst formation and no evidence of ventricular irregularity. These signal changes likley represent gliosis as there is no definate white matter between the hyperintensity and the ventrical wall.
No focal mass is seen within the cerebreal hemispheres, brainstem or cerebellum. No abnormality is seen in relation to the pituitary fossa or cervicomedullary junction. The intracranial flow voids are normal.
IMPRESSION:
Although periventrcular high signal can be seen with delayed myelination of the terminal zones, gliosis is suspected. This can be confirmed on follow up imaging.
