Tapering off topomax

I am on 50mg of topomax for migraines. I take 2 25mg at night. I have been taking topomax for 2 years maybe more and my headaches and gotten slightly better and am at the time in my life where we are going to start trying for a family. Because of that I would like to try and taper off my medicine.

I asked a pharmacist and a general doctor briefly their advice who didn't know all the details and they just said taper off my doing 1 one night 2 the next for a week or two then drop the dose down to 1 for another week and so on until I am completely off.

I just wanted to verify this information and make sure that it was ok to taper off in 25mg increments and I don't have to get a smaller milligram prescribed to me like 10mg and taper off in 10 mg increments (because I think that is how I was put on it-but I could be wrong)...I am also nervous because I have a history of seizures (epilepsy but haven't had one in 15 years and last time I took an eeg no longer had a 3 spike wave I believe is what they said), and I know topomax is originally for seizures so I did not what to upset anything.

You really need to speak to your treating physician (GP or Neurologist) about this.
The fact that you had a seizure previously makes the decision more complicated than the usual situation with migraines.
