Sudden onset dementia

Sudden onset dementiaMy mother is 55 years old, 5'2, about 100lbs. She has hx of alcoholism, heart disease, hypoglycemia, kidney infections and UTIs. She's allergic to penicillin. A few months ago she began having memory problems, difficulty walking and seizures. She was admitted to the hospital and treated for a UTI and epilepsy. My mother has never had seizures before this. She can no longer walk and is delusional 100% of the time, but does not have hallucinations. Doctors have done many tests; STI screening, CT, MRI, PET and a lumbar puncture and no one can tell me what is wrong with her. I have not seen her in person for about 5 years and I know she was homeless during some of that time. She lives in FL and I live in MN and cannot currently afford to move her closer to me. When I speak with her she usually knows who I am, but is very disoriented. She speaks of people who have been deceased for years as though she has spoken to them that day, she says she is staying at a hotel on an air force base (she's in a nursing home), and has also told me that she thought I was a dog named Oliver. The nurses who work with her tell me that she cannot walk on her own, but doesn't remember and requires a seatbelt that she cannot undo. She has tipped over her wheelchair 3 or 4 times now. I know they have her depakote, but I believe that's the only medication she's on. Any ideas on what would cause this?
Re: Sudden onset dementiaDo you have the results of the tests she did?

Re: Sudden onset dementiaI don't have the actual results, but the doctor said the only thing they found was evidence of seizure activity.
