Stiffness of muscles caused by duel contractions

New postby FeatherMe on Tue Oct 13, 2009 2:52 pm

What I have been calling spasms for a lack of a better term, was just described by a new doctor as stiffness of the muscles due to contraction of both the agonist and antagonist muscles at the same time. He also describes increased motor unit activity. Twice when I had an episode in the office, once with his brother and once with him, my arm and leg were involved - stiff with my leg straight from the knee and foot pulled downward - my arm was bent at the elbow and wrist with a claw hand one time and a clenched fist another. In order to get me out of the room they needed, as these took hours to resolve, they each had to transfer me from the chair I was in to the wheelchair. Both times I had no sensation of where my legs were and I felt a great heaviness from the waist down. I was dead weight and they each struggled not to drop me. Would you be able to tell me what was happening to me then? I didn't talk to either of them about it as they were in a hurry to be rid of me.
We rejoice in our sufferings. Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us. God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Adapted Romans 5:3-4
