Neurological?

New postby Cocoaliyah on Fri Oct 29, 2010 4:09 am

I am a female who is my early thrities. I am married and have no children. I have a very active lifestyle and for years have trained several times per week. I have an extensive medical history however have for the most part remained active during the bouts that I have had. For the last two years, I have been deteriorating and they have not found the cause. There is a lot of overlap with medications and comorbidities so it has made diagnoses difficult. Many people in the past have suspected that I had epilepsy or a rare disorder although nothing has been confirmed. Unfortunately diagnoses is imperative at this point as I am no longer able to function in my home or take care of myself. I have written an indepth history but will not post that here. I have uploaded an attachment of the details. If anyone has absolutely any ideas, that would be wonderful or if they have thoughts or would like more information if their symptoms are similar. Some of these symptoms, I have had episodes of over the years, such as the slurred speech, balance and mixing of words but most of the symptoms have been over the last year and are much more severe and debilitating. I am immunocompromised and am being treated with HAART however my immunity is good enough that it does not account for my lack of immune response to infection. My lack of response is severe ie: no fever or swelling or typical symptoms. This occurs more frequently over time and my response to the infection is less each time. I was also diagnosed with "anxiety" due to heart palpitations but this was later diagnosed as wolf parkinsons white with SVT and two other arrythmias which were treated by cardiac ablation. My triglicerides have been over 8 for the last 4 years but most recently have dropped to 4 which obviously is still very high. Other than that my tests have for the most part other than a extremely high CK of over 1800 with weakness are completely normal. They have tested this many times since during symptoms and it has been normal. EMG confirmed the muscle weakness in all of my muscles however I only felt it in my legs at the time. It resolved after several months. EEG for the most part was normal other than sugesstive of mild encepholopathy or hypoglycemia. My blood sugars have always been good to my knowlege though. MRI was done in April and was normal. Neuro exams have always been normal other than weakness however haven't been checked since I have started developing problems with motor function.
Episodes of slurred speech, words in wrong place and off balance (when fatigue or with infection). Also with those episodes, at times I am dazed and out of it and have difficulty stringing a sentence together. I was treated with Tegretol a few years ago and things improved. It was discontinued due to side effects. I have consulted psychiatry and psychologists as well and they are perplexed by my symptoms. Most recently what has transpired is,

When I take medications (which I have taken many in the past) lately, it induces some sort of a state. I feel as if I have taken the entire bottle. I am disoriented, confused, out of it, have great difficulty communicating and thinking is completly warped. One pill rendered me in hospital for a week where things were only familiar unless someone prompted my memory. Short term memory was awful with my long term impeccable, bordering on psychosis

Judgment, personality and behavior (SEVERELY affected)
Disorientation (episodic)
Dazed and out if it (when fatigued)
Cant string sentence together (when fatigued)
Disorganized, scattered, flustered
Dont think things through
Cant follow conversation, TV or read
Dont understand words or sentences sometimes
Almost feel severe ADD with terrible attention
Miss words, grammar is awful, sound simple and uneducated, unable to find my rolodex of words
Friends say hesitant speech, slow to respond, dazed, behavoor is bizarre
Memory (when in induced state) not all the time- my short term when it happens is simply awful not even remembering what happened two minutes prior but long term is impecable
Medication induces a state that is SEVERE to the point of being hospitilized and things only being familiar-the most awful feeling I have ever endured. Last time it lasted over a week
Sleep is insane and unbearable
Dont care about anything
Personal hygiene and home
Dont even care to eat or take in fluids
Restlessness and weakness
Swollen bumps in head sometimes
Out of breath (comes and goes with weakness)
heart racing and missed beats
