neurological effects of martial art technique...

New postby questionistadoria on Sun Jan 18, 2009 3:08 am

Hello,

I have questions about a martial art technique in which the opponent's radial nerve is pinched or compressed against the periosteum of the forearm, rendering the hand and arm ineffective:

1. Can you describe how this works (what is happening neurologically)?

2. Is it possible that the lower body (or any other parts) could also be affected?

3. I have read that a sharp, powerful blow to the nerve in this spot might knock a person unconscious!
That sounds a little far-fetched to me.... Do you think it's possible? if so, how? If not, what effect do you think it would have?

4. Could practicing this technique damage the nerve?

Thank you very much for your time.
I appreciate any help you can offer.
