Nerve damage by fluoroquinolones
First unread post • 2 posts • Page 1 of 1
Nerve damage by fluoroquinolonesIn May 2009 I was diagnosed with bronchopneumonia and was given Avelox for two weeks . Since then I have a cold tingly feeling on my back , (some times posturally activated)and hypersensitivity to cold on my back only. My lung specialist carried out x ray and blood tests and he reassured me that it will pass. I still get that today. In June of this year 2010 I had a bout of bacterial prostatitis and was prescribed Cipro for 4 weeks. After ten days of taking this antibiotic I started feeling pain in my legs, my fingers, and had ganglia type lumps on my knuckles and fingers. My urologist discontinued the treatment with fluoroquinolones and put me on a different antibiotic. The infection eventually cleared but the pains in my legs, hands and wherever there are tendons continue but milder. The lumps have completely subsided. I have read about the risks of tendon damage and other peripheral neuropathies caused by fluoroquinolones even long after the treatment is over and would like to receive some expert advice as to what I should avoid doing not to worsen the situation, if what I have is some kind of nerve damage by the quinolones.I am 65 years old without any other health issues. Many thanks.
