I am in a strange situation and really need advice since I know very little about the brain. I have been dating someone who is very verbally abusive. I ended the relationship and now they told me that during an explosion that occurred a few months ago they suffered a brain injury and this was why they had been so agressive and angry with me. The thing is, I don't know if they're telling me the truth or if this is a ploy to get me to return to the relationship. He is currently in another state and has been for the duration of these complications. I need to know if the things he told me sound feasible to a real injury.
He claimed due to the explosion, he had brain fluid (cerebral spinal fluid?) leaking inside his brain somewhere in the front area of his brain. He said the doctors told him he could lose all his memories or become paralyzed after the surgery. After the first surgery he claimed to be in a lot of pain, then told me he had a brain infection and had to go in and have another surgery. I had one conversation with him during this time and he seemed completely fine when we talked. Now after this next surgery he told me he doesn't have sensation in his genital area and his lower body and the doctors don't know if it's permanent or not. (Which would be convienent since he couldn't cheat on me while he's away) While he was telling me this he was completely coherent but said talking to me had re opened his bandages where ever they are. I have been going crazy trying to figure out if this guy is a victim of a brain injury or if he's an anti-social liar. I know the details are vauge but it's all I know. Does any of this sound like this could be real and typical of leaking cranial fluid or does the story seem false. I really need to ask a professional.
