JME and Photosensetivity questions

New postby kostareyna on Mon Apr 11, 2011 4:17 am

Hello,

First of all this is my story:
I was diagnosed with JME 7 years ago,i talk lamictal for couple of years which aggravated my seizures and also toke valporic acid which din't really help.
I used to jump when i played video games and in the morning couldn't wash my face with my eyes closed,if i did i would feel fear and after a second i will jerk, that's how i learned to avoid my seizures except when i set in front of a computer, which could make my palm move or feel aura for a split second. Now i take keppra 500mg daily, when i toke 250mg daily it was already enough to contain my seizures infront of a computer and closing my eyes,i'v added to have more resistance to flashing lights from the sun.

my questions are as follows:

1)How come my JME dependent on my photosensetivity (closing my eyes) and doesn't occure by itself??,im more prone to seizures and more sensetive in the morning that's why i'v been diagnosed with jme but if i won't close my eyes i will be able to avoid it,did you ever heard of such a condition??,i would really like to read an article about it.

2)When does a person counts as seizure free??,i don't have seizures but i can bring them if i want to using flashing lights from the sun and trees,i know that the higher the contrast and speed of flashesh especially striped patterns i would feel them more and my fear could get stronger unless i will open my eyes and nothing would happen, weak contrast and most flashes won't affect me or the fear im having will stop by itself at the same second i closed my eyes.

Do I count as seizure free or im sepused to take meds untill i won't feel anything?? i was told you sepused to avoid triggers especially when it comes to photosensetivity. Din't try to put the special polorized blue lences yet but if it will be enough to not feel anything can i stay on my dosage of keppra??

Have you had an EEG recently ? Have you discussed the meds with your neurologist ?

Yeah i had an eeg test 2 months ago, came out normal even during photic stimulation.

spoke with my neurologist about the meds,he thinks 500mg daily is way too low and i need to increase it later on,personaly i recall reading article that had a minimum dosage of keppra calculated by weight and since i weigh 134 pounds the minimum dosage for me should be 750mg daily.

Anyway he said the i should avoid the triggers and not trigger them on perpose and also said that the meds sepused to provide broad protection against the seizures and increase my treshold.
