HELP! Feels like I'm on a boat constantly

New postby beans on Fri May 27, 2011 4:28 pm

I have been feeling like I'm on a boat for the past 3 weeks. There is this constant swaying or rocking sensation that only seems to feel better when I first wake up in the morning and slightly better when I am driving or riding in a car. It also sometimes feels like I'm being pressed down, backwards and to the left...like a persistent tugging sensation. I have no other symptoms except for the soreness in my neck and shoulders now from trying to keep my head still! It started on 5/6/11, the day after I flew from Florida to NY. It wasn't a particularly long flight but it was very turbulent. I felt strange immediately when I got off the plane, like when you get out of an elevator and the floor feels like it is still moving underneath you. But the symptoms subsided for about 12 hours and then they came back. Unfortunately, they have not really left me since. I have had VNG testing done minus the caloric tests be cause I freaked out when they started them. (I suffer from severe anxiety and panic disorder) All other tests involved in VNG came back negative. My ENT wants me to have an MRI next since I won't do the calorics. I have one scheduled for next Wednesday but in the mean time am consumed with the need to know what might be causing this and how to make it go away! ENT in NY told me I had viral labyrinthitis and that the symptoms would start to go away after 2-3 weeks and haven't noticed any significant improvement yet. Doctor's here don't think it is necessarily labyrinthitis without tests to confirm. I have also had hearing tests done and was told I have "super human" hearing if that helps. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
