I just received my reports from the NYC doctor and I wasn't far off in what I thought his message was. I felt he was hedging by not giving me a diagnosis of small fiber neuropathy, simply saying, "Numerous studies performed support some element of small fiber neuropathy and possiby mild autonomic neuropathy. However, these findings cannot explain the full extent of her condition." I agree with the last sentence. The first two sentences are weak and wimpy at best. Why doesn't he nail these down and name them?
The skin biopsies both came back - "skin with significantly low epidermal nerve fiber density." Can you explain what that means to you?
He used the words "functional factors" which set off all sorts of red flags to me. Perhaps I am overeacting. Too many times those words meant IAIYH. This is what was said - "I considered treatments to increase her blood pressure given the lower standing values, even without significant orthostatic tachycardia or hypotension but I am not confident that she will respond given the other functional factors." Is he referring to the way my heart is acting or the way my head is acting?
I was told to come back in a year.
I go to a movement disorder doctor June 4th. Meanwhile a young doctor I was sent to for help with my feet and my gait has taken up the weirdness of my neurological system and offered me hope. He's a physiatrist and impressed me with his determination to get to the bottom of this. He's sending for records to see what tests have been done. I hope he doesn't get tainted.
