EEG Report - Your interpretations please

New postby 1michele3 on Mon Sep 07, 2009 1:57 am

My 12 y/o son recently had an EEG. My son has a variety of unusual symptoms, which would correlate with partials. My neurologist and my paediatrician disagree with each other on the dx. The neurologist is adamant of 'absence seizures' for dx, my paediatrician is saying 'partials'. So this is the EEG findings:

"The patient was awake. Hyperventilation and photic stimulation was undertaken. A prolonged recording was undertaken.
"The recording contains well-formed rhythmic 8-10hz activity over the occipital, temporal and parietal regions. Over the frontal poles, irregular 3-4 hz and 4-6 hz activity is seen. From the outset of the recording, multifocal sharp waves are seen in both frontal regions. At times, sharp slow wave discharges are seen spanning both cerebral hemispheres. Hyperventilation induces slowing to 3-4 hz with increasing sharp wave activity seen in both the temporal and parietal regions, now spreading into the frontal poles with sharp slow waves discharges. Post-hyperventilation activity resumes after 30 seconds. Photic stimulations is unremarkable.

Comment: this recording is abnormal. Generalised multifocal epileptiform activity is seen throughout the recording."

I would be happy to list all my sons symptoms if required. By the way, we never suspected nor noticed any 'absences' though my son does believe he has had times where he has missed parts of a lesson etc in class. No teacher has ever suggested absences, but daydreaming and lack of focus or not listening to instructions has been noted on occasions.

So, any comments would be most welcome

Thanks for your time
