Driving a nail into my head
First unread post • 5 posts • Page 1 of 1
Driving a nail into my headI rarely get traditional headaches, but every now and again I get a sensation that it feels like a sharp pain in my head, almost as if someone is tapping a nail into my head. Its not as severe as it sounds, but the point I'm making is that the pain is sharp and in one specific point. It also feels as if there is some sensitivity if I touch my head in the area of the pain. These episodes can occur 6 months apart and last for a day or 2. The pain is intermittent during the episodes. I take advil, but usually never does much. I have been keeping a diary for the last 5 years and haven't found any common variable other then it occurs in the same quadrant of my head( the back right portion, the pain is never below the ear). Any feedback on what this could be or what to do is helpful. If it matters, I'm a 41 year old active male.
Re: Driving a nail into my headHow long does each pain last...is it many attacks of a second or two or is it more long-lasting?

Re: Driving a nail into my headEach pain lasts for a second. I'm currently taking Simvastatin for cholesterol, but thats something I started taking this past year and I've had the pain before the medication
Re: Driving a nail into my headDo you ever find that you have tears coming out of one eye or the eye closes when you have the pain?

Re: Driving a nail into my headBump.
I have these headaches too. I just had a barage of tests done and am awaiting a visit with the neurologist after the tests. Today, I got real dizzy for about twenty - twenty-five minutes and then the "nail in the head" pains started. They last for about 30 seconds - 1 minute and they disappear. I had 4-5 of them about 2 minutes apart. I took some aspirin and now I have a steady headache, all over my head. The pain is always in my left temple. An eeg showed focal onset seizures and an mri showed temporal lobe sclerosis. I was scheduled for another MRI, this time with very thin slices of the temporal lobe and another EEG with a greater amount of sleep deprivation. I am awaiting results. Thanks, Jay
