Chiari 1 malformation & Codeine cough syrup

Hello
I was recently diagnosed with a Chiari 1 brain malformation. My herniation is 10mm and I have not had any surgeries for it.
I currently have bronchitis and am coughing non-stop. I know that coughing is bad for a chiarian so I am trying to hold it back as best I can. My primary doc gave me some Promethazine- w/Codeine cough syrup. He knows nothing about chiari, so I am always afraid of the things he says. On the pamphlet I got with the cough syrup- it says not to take if you have an brain conditions. I am wondering if it is safe for me to take the cough syrup w/codeine with my chiari malformation? A fast answer woudl be greatly appreciated so i can stop coughing with the medicine or try to find alternative methods of relief. Thanks!
