Can long-term memories be erased?

I have read that short-term memory in humans can be erased using certain medications such as certain tranquilizers of the benzodiazepines family, for example, Flunitrazepam. Is it possible In humans, something similar may be achieved with certain drugs or methods to erase long-term memory?
