Brain Viruses

Hi,
My mom is aged 52. On recent MRI test, it was seen that there were viruses which infected her brain. She is currently taking aciclovir. Does aciclovir kill the viruses? Or does the immune system kill the viruses? Is there any way to kill the viruses? Also, her brain is swelling. She is like in a confused state, she can't talk or understand anything. Is this related to the brain swelling and the brain viruses? Will there be any brain damage? Is there chances for her to recover? Also, is there any way to heal the swelling of the brain? Thank you.
