Acoustic Neuroma & Facial Nerve Paralysis

New postby ADIF on Thu May 26, 2011 7:45 am

Thank you for your time. I am 11 years post surgery for an acoustic neuroma. The auditory and balance nerve were removed, however the surgeon stated that the facial nerve was intact and seemed undamaged. He stated that 3 hours post surgery that were signs of facial movement but with in 24 hours all movement ceased. I have complete right side facial paralysis.

Within the past 3 months I have developed a right side facial twitch that seems to have become more frequent with time. (Maybe this is hopeful wishing on my part.) Just yesterday I had a "twitch" that pulled the right side of my mouth up for 4 whole seconds. I smiled! This "twitch" can happen multiple times a day as well. Prior to 3 months ago, I have never experienced any movement whatsoever.

I am getting my hopes up? Could the facial nerve finally be regenerating?
