Abnormal EEG of a microcephalic 5 year year old

New postby pskrish75 on Sat Jun 06, 2009 8:42 pm

Here is the report for my son
Background Activity: Mixture of theta/beta range activity seen
Paraxymal activity: Generalized sharp & slow wave discharges seen
Hyperventilation: Not done
Photic Stimulation: No additional stimulation
Conclusion: Abnormal EEG - to clinically correlate.

Dhruv was born with a small head (head circumference of 29.5 centimeters). his motor milestones have been age appropriate (walked at about 13 months, can write on paper or on black board, pick coins pegs etc), however his cognitive milestones have been delayed. He does not talk fluently still. Understands most of what we speak and can ask for/or indicate his needs are. I can provide more details if required.

We had performed the EEG on advice of a neurologist we recently consulted for a routine check up.

He has not so far had any seizures. I wanted an opinion on what this abnormal report means and what we have to watch out for as symptoms to track if anything wrong is happening.

Appreciate your kind help

Regards
Krish
