Leg and other body part jerks...why?

Muscle twitches and fasciculations may raise the fear of a neuromuscular problem such as ALS

Leg and other body part jerks...why?

New postby phix95 on Fri Dec 04, 2009 5:42 pm

My leg is what usually 'jerks', or moves involuntarily, and not during sleep; it can be any time. When it happens, I can actually feel an almost simultaneous impulse in my head--it doesn't hurt, but logically to me, it seems like this little 'impulse' causes the jerk. Its very strange.
Sometimes I also have muscle twitches (where your muscle moves but not your limb).
I have depression/panic disorder (for 18 yrs) which apparently got worse for no reason in April. (I was, and still kind of am, sensitive to light and sound; then developed shaking and these muscle jerks.)

(I've had what I'm guessing is a myoclonic jerk during the night, even when I'm kind of laying there awake...I don't think this is the same but maybe. The myoclonic jerks would be very powerful, I guess--my head would come off the pillow.)

I've had tests done (MRI, CT, sleep test [for seizures], and some blood work but I'm not sure what was tested. They were all normal except I have a lump on my lymph node, which they said wasn't important.

My prozac has been upped and have been added onto Seroquel (which I know can cause stuff kind of like this) but it's a pretty small dose. I was on gabapentin for a bit but went off that. Also tried Abilify and it kept me awake (or I think it did).

Of course my psych thinks its "anxiety" but I'm really only anxious b/c of the symptoms themselves and I'm usually not anxious in fact. I also feel that sensitivity and sort of like I'm gonna jump out of my skin, kind of.

What could cause this, besides anxiety, which I just don't think is right? Something that would not show up on an xray? I just feel like my brain is spazing, like the impulses are going a bit nutty; god I dont know.
Any more natural things/foods I could take to help this?

Thanks
