ALS MND or ?

Muscle twitches and fasciculations may raise the fear of a neuromuscular problem such as ALS

ALS MND or ?

New postby jjj on Fri Jan 02, 2009 8:49 am

Hi Male 44

3 years ago I suffered food poisoning, 'Camplyobacter jeujuni' about a month later
I started to twitch
my right thumb..Doc ignored at the time.

About 6 months later I suffered a severe Zoster Virus..nearly died.
Post Zoster I was fatigued, slept alot.
Diagnosed a year later with several Autoimmune diseases.

Hashimotos
Sjogrens
Anklyosing Spondulitis (HLA-B27+)
Hepatitis (Unkown Etiology)
Gastric Parietal Cell Antibodies

Im on no meds except Thyroid Replacement.

The twitching slowly increased and spread to other areas of my body slowly.
I had an MRI of Brain,

Results were no lesions however a 'Cavernoma' was seen.
Neuro decided to leave it alone.

I suffer now:
Chronic Fatigue
Ligament pains
Muscle pains
Bone Pains
Joint pains
And the other usual ailments from the above diseases.

Still Mentally pretty good though !

However recently the twitching has increased..
All over my body like insects running inside and out.
My rectum judders my insides move and twitch..every part of me twitches..
like little machine guns firing away all the time
Its very scary....

Now my right hand/thumb (where it all started 3 years ago) is weaker...
when I grasp objects and release my thumb goes into a spasm.
The fingers on in my right hand have less sensitivity than my left

I can hold my right hands fingers under the hot tap, but not my left.
My right hand/arm is weaker now, it used to be the stronger.

My Doc wants me to see the Neuro for a Nerve Conductivity Test.

Im sure you will suggest an EMG as well?

My questions are..could it be ALS/MDN or ?
Would the Cavernoma have anything to do with it ?

If its ALS/MND how long have I got realistically ?

Thanks for your advice

Thanks for your question....have you had a full neurological examination?
