Just anxiety? Am i wasting the neurologists time?? help!!

Hi there, may i just say how grateful i am to have found this service, you guys are awesome.

Right ok, well i've been having anxiety problems for a couple of months now and thought i'd got everything under control until last week when i started getting pins and needles more often than before. After this i became more and more worried and seem to have developed a sort of warm burning sensation in my left foot and get the odd tingly feeling in my hands. I also notice a slight twitching in my thumb and sometime calf, but this is rare and only seems to happen when im sat in awkward positions. May i add that this pins and needles feeling doesnt happen all the time it kind of comes and goes. I also have very odd bowel movements, where i am sometimes costipated and sometimes very much the opposite! (sorry if thats too much info!).

I have had blood tests done, eyes tested, hearing tested and a couple of months ago my doc did a strange exam apparently to rule out 'organic brain defects' or something like that. He tested my balance, senses, coordination and alsorts of other stuff and all of these thing have come back ok.

I went to my doctor again who gave me another clean bill of health, but after talking to me and seeing how visibly anxious i was decided to refer me to a neurologist to 'put my mind at rest', even thought in his opinion there was no point.

I would just like to know if all these tests would have shown something? I really don't want to be wasting the neurologists time if I'm OK.

Thankyou so much,

Marc.

Thanks for your question.

Well, it may very well be that it is all anxiety related however I cannot commit to this without examining you myself!

In general, what I would suggest is that you be examined by someone who is competent in performing a full neurological assessment (taking a history and examining). It may be that your GP feels he is confident enough in the field of neurology to do this and if you have faith in him then this should be enough. If not then a full neuro exam with a specialist is indicated, and if they give the same assessment then this should hopefully reassure you.

If it is all anxiety then this doesn't mean you are not feeling what you are feeling or that you do not deserve treatment!

Let us know how it goes
