When to see a neurologist for tics?

New postby angels4kali on Mon Mar 01, 2010 3:45 pm

My son is 5 1/2 years old and in kindergarten. We took him to his pediatrician about a year and a half ago (maybe longer) to have vision checked because he was always blinking.
She told us it was a tic. Since then we have experienced many different tics:

sniffling
shoulder shrugging
throat clearing
rolling his head back along his shoulders

most recently:

eye rolling
lowering his chin to his chest
opening his mouth and then snapping his haw shut

His tics get better sometimes, even disapper, but soon either the same tics or new ones come back.

At what point does it become appropriate to see a neurologist for his tics?

You should certainly go back to see the neurologist. There are a few possibilities such as tourettes or even imuune system issues related to throat infections with strep. Let us know how it goes
