PET FDG Meaning

PET FDG MeaningI recently had a PET FDG that indicated "symmetrically decreased activity in the basal ganglia which demonstrate uptake similar to that of the cerebral cortex". Can anyone explain what this could mean in laymen's terms?
Re: PET FDG MeaningIt basically means that according to the report, the areas in your brain called the "basal ganglia" (involved in co-ordinating movements and are the areas involved in conditions such as parkinsons disease) appear to be less active then they should be on both sides of the brain.
