whats going on with my head

New postby jegbarnes on Mon Aug 15, 2011 9:02 am

Good morning! I really am so confused about the severe pain that I experienced Thursday and again on Friday. Thursday I was at the hospital with my father in law who had just had a double leg amputation. I was a little overwhelmed a nd crying. All the sudden out of no where I got a stabbing pain in my head. The location was the back left side about 3 inches from the back of my ear. I immediatly put my hand. Back there and just held that spot. It hurt so bad that the nurse asked me if I was okay because my pain was evident. This SEVERE pain subsided a bit but left a bad headache for the rest of the day but ibeprophen helped relieve the pain. The next day around 5pm I was brushing my teeth and I gagged a little and the pain was so bad that I dropped my toothbrush in the sink the severe pain had me still holding my head for about 2 minutes and left me with a bad headache for 3 days in which ibeprophen would releive for about 3 to 4 houres until it wore off. I have never suffered from migraiins but would have headaches about once a week but nothing too bad. The spot where the imense stabbing pain starts is sore to the touch even without a headache. The headache following the stabbing pain consumes the entire left side of my head and neck but the right side is fine. Please answer soon.

i hope you are better now but its possible that you had occipital neuralgia. you can look up the details online. YOu should be evaluated by a physician if you havent already to rule out any dangerous causes of headache. IF you are still suffering you may want to see a headache specialist .
