Occipital Neuralgia and Costochondritis

New postby dianneevans on Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:58 pm

Hello there,

I suffer horribly with occipital neuralgia. They began spontaneously 4 years ago. When I go through an episode, which happens about twice a month, my husband has had to learn to talk me through the pain until the pain killers can take effect. I am totally immobilized and to move my neck even fractionally is excruciating.

Yesterday I was diagnosed with Tietze's Syndrome which, I've discovered, have had these symptoms for much longer than the occipital neuralgia.

Upon researching this new diagnosis of the Tietze's syndrome, one of the many possible side effects was "referred pain" which may cause pain in the bones in the spine, compressing the nerves.

I cannot find any such research regarding any possible connection between the 2 conditions but I wonder if my occipital neuralgia is actually caused by the "referred pain" caused by the Tietze's Syndrome?!

Any help you can lend on getting rid of these occipital headaches would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks so much,

Dianne

Yesterday I was diagnosed with Tietze's Syndrome

What area of the body is believed to be involved?

Have you tried any meds for neuropathic pain (lyrics, cymbalta, neurontin)?
